Esther Peterson, 84

Thief River Falls - Esther Peterson, 84, died on Monday, April 13, 1998 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 16 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Merrill Kindall officiating. Helen Dahlstrom will be the organist. Casketbearers will be Eugene Rondorf, Richard Peterson, Philip Rondorf, Joe DeHaan, Todd Kezar and Mark Larson. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls today (Wednesday, April 15) and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Esther Mathilda Johnson was born on February 23, 1914 in Kratka township, the daughter of Hans and Amida (Swanson) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church and attended Meadowlark School in Kratka township.

She was united in marriage to Carl William Peterson on March 2, 1934 in Manitoba, Canada. The couple farmed near Drayton, ND and moved to rural Thief River Falls in 1939. They moved near Mavie in 1944 and in 1948 moved into Thief River Falls where Esther raised her family, cleaned houses and did babysitting. Carl died on September 1, 1971. In December of 1982 Esther moved to Oakland Park Nursing Home.

She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Thief River Falls.

Esther is survived by three daughters, Brunelle (William) Rondorf of Thief River Falls, Lois (Robert) Magner of Thief River Falls and Carol (James) Larson of Newfolden; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ida Nelson of Thief River Falls and Myrtle Peterson of Battle Lake, MN; and one brother, Edwin Peterson of Hallock.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers, Ernest, Hilman and Morris Johnson; and one sister, Harriet.
