Mabel Peters, 87

Seattle, WA - Mabel Peters, 87, formerly of Mentor, died Tuesday, July 28, 1998 at Crista Senior Community in Seattle, WA.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 1, 1998 at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls with Reverend Curtis Brooks officiating. Linda Olson was the organist, and Delores Kading was the soloist. Casketbearers were Rolland Chester, Blaine Turner, Roger Olson, Richard Ostgard, Allen Borman and Lowell Gemar. Honorary casketbearers were Maurice Anderson, Nels Johnson and Art Olson. Burial was in Rosehill Cemetery near Mentor. The Petterson Funeral Services of Red Lake Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Mabel Madge Grover was born on June 19, 1911 in McPherson County, NE, the daughter of John and Minnie (Booze) Grover. She moved to Minnesota with her family by covered wagon in 1923.

On October 1, 1932 she was united in marriage to Elmer Peters at Crookston. They farmed and made their home in the Mentor area for 62 years until Mabel moved to Washington to live with her daughter. Elmer died on October 26, 1985.

Mabel enjoyed crafts, gardening and people, especially young people. Her last job was as a volunteer in the recreational therapy department of a local nursing home encouraging others to participate.

Mabel is survived by one daughter, LaVerne (Jerold) Gemar of Edmonds, WA; four sisters, Virgie Wahl of Quamba, Billie Turner of Spooner, WI, Crystal Desrosier of Silver Bay and Freda Stanley of Olympia, WA; three grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many "adopted" grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.
