Raymond Perras, 85

Red Lake Falls - Raymond Perras, 85, died Saturday, October 18, 1997 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held today, Wednesday, October 22 at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Gary LaMoine officiating. Special music will be provided by organist Kathie Knott, soloist Darla Huot and St. Joseph's Church choir. Casketbearers will be Larry Foley, Michael Foley, Alan Foley, Greg Perras, Michael Schafer and Brian Schafer. Military honors will be afforded by American Legion Post 22 of Red Lake Falls. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery at Brooks.

Visitation was held Tuesday from 5 to 8:30 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service and rosary at Petterson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls and for one hour prior to services at the church.

Raymond Walter Perras was born February 26, 1912 at Brooks, the son of Max and Nellie (Toulouse) Perras. He attended the local school and a Catholic boys' school in Techny, IL for three years. He graduated from high school in Virginia, MN. Raymond assisted his father in his hardware store in Brooks before beginning his banking career at the Red Lake County State Bank in 1934 where he worked for approximately 50 years. On June 4, 1935 he was united in marriage to Hazel Noyes at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Brooks. During World War II he served in the United States Navy.

Ray received the Citizen of the Year award in May of 1977 from the Red Lake Falls Civic and Commerce. He served as Chief Ranger of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Commander of the Gunder Austad Post 22, was a school board member for two terms, treasurer of St. John's Hospital advisory board and was a member of Red Lake Falls Development and Industries. Ray was a great sports enthusiast with baseball a top priority. He also enjoyed golf until he was stricken with Parkinson's disease. He entered Hillcrest Nursing Home in May of 1993.

Raymond is survived by his wife Hazel of Red Lake Falls; one sister, Florence (Fred) Lang of Minneapolis; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Max; and four sisters, Nellie, Rose, Alma and Evelyn.
