Valborg Pepelnjak, 72

Virginia - Valborg "Volly" Pepelnjak, 72, died Tuesday, February 2, 1999 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.

Valborg Hemmestvedt was born on April 19, 1926 in rural Goodridge, the daughter of Torjus and Anne (Haugen) Hemmestvedt. She was a 1943 graduate of Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls and a 1946 graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Nursing.

On June 29, 1948 she was united in marriage to William Pepelnjak. The couple made their home in Virginia. Volly was employed as a nursing supervisor for the Virginia Medical Center for many years. She also worked at the Gethsemane Group Home and the Developmental Achievement Center.

After retirement, Volly was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, receiving recognition for her outstanding work and serving on both the local and state ACS boards.

She was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and its Martha Mary Guild and its choir. She enjoyed sewing and a variety of handcrafts.

Valborg is survived by her husband, Bill; five daughters, Jan Pepelnjak of Frankfurt, Germany, Jill Pepelnjak of Hibbing, and Joyce (John) Aro, Julie Pepelnjak and Valerie Pepelnjak, all of Virginia; three grandchildren; one sister, Helen (Elmer) Simon of Altura; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Truman Hemmestvedt; and one sister, Joyce Jenson. A00003B1999MR10
