Harley Parsley, 89

Thief River Falls - Harley Parsley, 89, died Thursday, July 13, 2000 at the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Thief River Falls with Larry Moen officiating. Burial was in the Presbyterian Cemetery near Brooks.

Harley Parsley was born on January 29, 1911 in Flandreau, S.D., the son of John and Olivia (Hackett) Parsley. When he was an infant, he moved with his family to Brooks. Harley attended a country school near Brooks. He worked on the family farm and eventually took it over.

On November 4, 1939, Harley and his wife, Frances, were married in Red Lake Falls. The couple made their home in Lambert township of Red Lake county. They farmed and raised hogs until his retirement in 1988. The couple moved to Thief River Falls in 1993, and Harley moved to the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in 1997.

Harley enjoyed his family, farm and animals, especially dogs. He also enjoyed gardening, reading, playing the violin, snowmobiling and going for drives through the countryside.

He was a member of the Thief River Falls congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Harley is survived by his wife, Frances of Thief River Falls; two sons, Harold of Warroad and Kenneth (Charlotte) of Brooks; two daughters, Betty (Wally) Hanson and Lyla (Gary) Dobson, both of Thief River Falls; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John Jr., Clarence and James; one sister, Rose; and one great-grandson, Jacob. A00003B2000JL19
