Vernon R. Ostlund, 80

ÝÝÝThief River Falls - Vernon R. Ostlund, 80, died on Thursday, August 26, 2004 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 31 at Johnson Funeral Service Chapel in Thief River Falls with Rev. Virgil Rasmussen officiating. Casket bearers included Aaron Ringling, Shawn Gislason, Sheldon Edberg, Gary Foss, Robbie Ostlund and Marvin Foss. Interment will be held at the Rosebud Cemetery in Thorhult.

ÝÝÝVernon was born January 28, 1924, the son of the late Emil and Alice (Tyson) Ostlund in Holt. He attended country school near Gatzke. He entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II.

ÝÝÝOn November 8, 1965 he was united in marriage to Marcella Holthusen in Wannaska. The couple farmed north of Grygla where they raised sheep. Vernon also worked as a logger in Wyoming and Montana and worked at Arctic Cat for 5 years.

ÝÝÝVernon enjoyed spending time in the woods, deer hunting and fishing.

ÝÝÝHe is survived by his children, LeeAnn (Ron) Pribula of Badger, Arnetta (Dale) Zeidlik of Goodridge, Sharon (Milton) Wikstrom of Alexandria, and Dianne (Tom) Frederickson of Drayton, N.D.; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Thelma (Gordon) Foss of Grygla, Edna (Emmett) Finley of Roseau, and Ruth (Larry) Foster of Sheridon, Wyo.; and several nieces and nephews.

ÝÝÝHe was preceded in death by his wife Marcella; sons, Leslie Ostlund and Delwyn Torgerson; daughter Charleen Bailey and brothers Alvin and Lester Ostlund and sister Eleanor Harrison.
