Robert Ortloff, 79

Thief River Falls - Robert Ortloff, 79, died Sunday, May 31, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 4 at 10 a.m. at Abundant Life Church with Reverend Wesley Langaas officiating. Bev Kays will be the organist, and special music will be provided by Solveig Swenson. Burial will be in Rux Cemetery in Sanders township of Pennington county.

Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, June 3) from 3 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Robert Ruben Ortloff was born on April 17, 1919 in Sanders township of Pennington county, the son of Andrew and Florence L. (Rux) Ortloff. He was baptized on July 13, 1919 at the Rux schoolhouse. He attended the Rux elementary school near St. Hilaire, and he grew to adulthood in the area. Robert worked on the family farm and then for O'Hare Transport for 13 years.

He was united in marriage to Anna Faye Leach on May 7, 1948 in Thief River Falls. He retired in 1982 after working for 20 years in maintenance for the Thief River Falls School District.

He was a member of Abundant Life Church and the Eagle's Aerie of Thief River Falls. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his son and his family and his fiance.

Robert is survived by his fiance, Harriet Engen of Thief River Falls; one son, James (Melanie) Ortloff of Thief River Falls; one grandson; one sister, Norma Paro of Glascow, MT; one brother, Wendell (Lucille) Ortloff of St. Hilaire; one sister-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Anna on May 24, 1989; parents; three brothers, Kenneth, Raymond and Elroy; two sisters, Irene Anderson and Esther Myhrer; and one brother-in-law.
