Trail - Olaf E. Olson, 86, died Monday, May 3, 1999 at his home in Hickory township of Pennington county.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 6 at Nazareth Lutheran Church, rural Trail, with Reverend Steven Sparley officiating. Larissa Chervestad was the organist, and vocal music was provided by Karen Good and Roger Good. Casketbearers were Ordean Sundrud, Gene Arverson, Daryl Schumacher, Dave Schneider, Wade Olson and Erick Olson. Military honors were accorded by the Oklee American Legion. Burial was in Nazareth Cemetery in Hickory township of Pennington county. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Olaf E. Olson was born on January 26, 1913 in Hickory township of Pennington county, the son of John and Gunvor (Tvietbakk) Olson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended school in Hickory township. After attending school he worked on the family farm.
Olaf served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his honorable discharge he returned to Pennington county and was united in marriage to Alverra Brumwell on June 1, 1946 at Oak Park Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in Hickory township.
Olaf was a lifetime member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, serving on various committees. He was also a member of the Thief River Falls Eagles Club and Oklee American Legion. For several years he served on the ASCS committee and was the State Fire Warden for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for 31 years.
He was an enthusiastic sportsman, enjoyed helping others and especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Olaf is survived by his wife, Alverra; two sons, Myles (Janice) Olson of Thief River Falls and Wayne (Pamela) Olson of Crookston; four grandchildren; one sister, Emma Gustafson of Red Lake Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Allen in 1970; seven brothers, Ole, Halvor, Tom, Henry, Johnnie, Ben and Arne; and one sister, Annie Ness.
