
Grygla - Lyle Olson, 63, died Wednesday, October 29, 1997 in Marshall County as the result of a car accident.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 2 at 1 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla with Reverend Gary Barrett and Reverend Roberta Johnson officiating. Special music was provided by Joy Nordby and Paul Denhert. Casketbearers were Stewart Sistad, Rodney Byklum, LeRoy Vigen, Verne Sletten, Donald Thomas and Wes Smith. The family considered Lyle's friends as honorary casketbearers. Military honors were provided by the Grygla VFW Post and American Legion. Burial was at Valle Cemetery, Benville township of Beltrami County. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Lyle Olson was born on October 12, 1934 in Grygla, the son of Gedion and Inga (Stenmoen) Olson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended rural school in Benville township of Beltrami County. Lyle worked on area farms for several years before entering the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Following his honorable discharge, he moved to Green Bay, WI and worked for a time at a mink ranch. He moved to St. Paul where he worked at Swift Meat Processing Plant. Lyle returned to the family farm in Grygla where he cared for his aging mother until her death. He worked for the Forestry Service in Grygla and in the potato harvest in the Red River Valley.
He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting.
Lyle is survived by three sisters, Ethel Gonnering and Violet Wold of Green Bay, WI, and Eileen Thompson of Grygla; one brother Galen Olson of Two Harbors; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Kenneth Olson, Vernon Olson, Glenn Olson and Lawrence "Cookie" Olson; and three brothers-in-law, Arnold Gonnering, Juel Wold and George Thompson.
