Luverne Olson, 77

Halma - Luverne Olson, 77, died on Tuesday, February 1, 2000 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 5 at Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Halma with Rev. Gary Halverson officiating. Corienne Jacobson was the organist, and the soloist was Vangie Carlson. Special music was provided by Derek Druse.

Honorary casketbearers were Neil Souder, Marvin Johnson, Jim Proulx, Gene Pederson, Wally Larson and Rudy Wojciechowski. Casketbearers were Shane Olson, Chad Olson, Darrin Foss, Stuart Nelson, Ryan Olson and Jared Olson. Military honors were accorded by Halma-Lake Bronson American Legion Post 315. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery in Lake Bronson. The Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad was in charge of the arrangements.

Luverne Arthur Olson was born on February 18, 1922 at Bronson, the son of Herbert and Ida (Hanson) Olson. He grew up and attended school at Lake Bronson and served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II.

On March 14, 1944 he was united in marriage to Ineta Jean Nichols Patrick at Bentonville, AR. The couple lived in Joplin, MO until 1953 when they moved back to Lake Bronson. In May of 1972 they moved to Halma. Luverne farmed and also worked as a section foreman for the Soo Line Railroad, retiring in 1984. Ineta died on September 11, 1992, and since December of 1999 Luverne had resided at Karlstad Memorial Nursing Center.

Luverne was a member of Halma-Lake Bronson American Legion Post 315, Kittson County 40 et 8, and the Kennedy VFW Post.

He enjoyed watching television and hobby farming.

Luverne is survived by one daughter, Connie (Duane) Nelson of Plummer; three sons, Billy (Margie) of Halma, Tommy (Paulette) of Karlstad and Jerry (Susan) of Grand Forks, ND; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Geraldine (Dennis) Erickson of Thief River Falls; two brothers, Harvey (Arlet) of Lake Bronson and Lloyd (Julianne) of Fallon, NV; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and one brother, Ivan. A00003B2000FB09
