
Stephen - Forrest Olson, 87, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 9 at 2 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in rural Stephen. Interment was in the Stephen Cemetery. The Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home of Warren was in charge of the arrangements.
Forrest Walter Olson was born on October 3, 1910 in Augsburg township in Marshall county, the son of Ole and Annie (Ericcson) Olson. He spent his early years there and was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith. He attended school and graduated from School 16 in Augsburg township and Stephen High School.
Forrest attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter and graduated from Moorhead State University, majoring in English, social studies and math. He received his Masters Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Minnesota. He taught in rural schools and a high school in Ellendale before returning to Stephen to farm in 1932.
He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army in England and France from 1942 until 1945. After his brother Bill died in 1958, Forrest returned to the home farm and remained there until 1991 when he moved to Valley Home in Thief River Falls. He returned to his home in the summer of 1992 and went back to Valley Home for the winter. In 1993 he moved to Karlstad Healthcare Center.
Forrest was a member of the Marshall County Historical Society, a charter board member of the Old Home Town Museum of Stephen and was a member of the Stephen V.F.W. and the Stephen American Legion Post 390.
He is survived by one niece, Doris Overton of Lawton, OK and one nephew, Harlan Overton of Elko, NV.
Forrest was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Melvin and Willie; and one sister, Anna Overton.
