Thief River Falls - Robert E. Nyvall, 89, formerly of Holt, died Saturday, April 24, 1999 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 29 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt with Reverend Robert Dahlen officiating. Yvonne Larson will be the organist, and vocal music will be provided by Don Lunke. Casketbearers will be Jim Klemmetsen, Jon Fosholm, Dennis Filer, Emery Horien, Bill Mehrkens and Clifford Steinhauer. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.

Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, April 28) from 5 to 7 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Robert Ernest Nyvall was born on September 29, 1909 in Red Lake county, the son of Joe and Ida (Ortloff) Nyvall. He moved with his family to Excel township in Marshall county where he attended school and grew up. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

On January 11, 1939 he was united in marriage to Gertrude Voth in Thief River Falls. The couple owned and operated a farm in Excel township until they retired and moved to Thief River Falls in 1992.

Robert served on the school board at Holt, serving many years as chairman. He was a longtime member and secretary/treasurer of the Thief River Falls Coin Club and a longtime member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt where he served as a deacon.

In addition to his wife, Gertrude, of Thief River Falls, Robert is survived by one son, Dr. Robert F. (Sandra) Nyvall of Grand Rapids; one daughter, Linda (Richard) Dunn of Stafford, VA; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Walter Steinhauer of Thief River Falls and Dr. Alfred Steinhauer of Midland, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Fred Steinhauer; and one brother, Harry Nyvall. A00003B1999AR28
