Mitchell Novacek, 45

Greenbush - Mitchell Novacek, 45, died Sunday, April 2, 2000 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Services were held at 10 a.m on Friday, April 7 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush with Father Don Braukmann officiating. Joe and Santo Cruz were the readers, and gift bearers were Jeremi, Jesse and Ashley Hanson. Theresa Novacek, Robert Novacek and Bernard Gonshorowski were the eucharistic ministers. Special music was provided by Mitch Walski and Peggy Swart.

Casketbearers were Tony Johnson, Cory Agre, Joe Cruz, Jeff Wittak, Mark "Bubba" Emery and Vernon Emery. Military honors were accorded by Moen-Zimek American Legion Post 88 of Greenbush. Interment was in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery in Greenbush with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush in charge of the arrangements.

Mitchell James Novacek was born on August 15, 1954 in Greenbush, the son of Anton J. "Tony" and Viola F. "Vi" (Johnson) Novacek. He grew up and attended school in Greenbush. In 1970, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank of the Boy Scouts of America. He graduated from Greenbush High School in 1972. From 1972 until 1975, Mitchell served in the U.S. Navy.

From 1976 to 1983, he worked in construction in Washington state and the Greenbush area. He also worked as a firefighter for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for several years. From 1983 until the time of his death, Mitchell was employed by Marvin Windows in Warroad.

He was a member of American Legion Post 88 at Greenbush and the Knights of Columbus.

Mitchell is survived by his wife, Irene of Greenbush; two sons, Lance Novacek of Roseau who is serving with the U.S. Marine Corp and Levi Novacek of Roseau; two stepsons, Jeremi Hanson and Jesse Hanson, both of Thief River Falls; one stepdaughter, Ashley Hanson of Greenbush; two brothers, Mike (Carol) Novacek of Apple Valley and Terry Novacek of Greenbush; and two sisters, Pam (Mark) Agre of Monticello and Paula (Gary) Johnson of Karlstad.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1974 and his mother in 1992. A00003B2000AP12
