Thief River Falls - Lloyd M. Noreen, 65, died Thursday, May 18, 2000 at his home in Bray township, rural Thief River Falls. Noreen Obit - Color

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 22, at Black River Lutheran Church, rural St. Hilaire, with Rev. Marcia Sylvester officiating. Adam Amiot was the reader. Ruthie Mosbeck was the organist, and the soloist was Diane Johnson.

Casketbearers were Luke Noreen, Mike Noreen, Jim Noreen, Jeff Noreen, Casey Noreen, Charlie Noreen, Jerry Perencik and Kenny Krohn. Honorary casketbearers were members of the St. Hilaire Lions Club and Bray Town board, Bricklayers, former baseball and softball teammates, hunting friends and other special friends. Interment was in Black River Cemetery in Polk Centre township of Pennington county. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lloyd M. Noreen was born on September 5, 1934 in Polk county, the son of Charles and Alice (Bjorndahl) Noreen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1952. He entered the U.S. Army on January 9, 1957. During his enlistment, he was stationed in Germany for six months and was honorably discharged on December 18, 1958.

On July 18, 1959, Lloyd was united in marriage to Janice Claire Krohn in Viking. The couple moved several times before making their home in Bray township of Pennington county in 1961. Lloyd continued to farm until his semi-retirement in 1998. Along with farming, he was a bricklayer by trade, and his handiwork can be seen in many buildings and structures throughout the area.

He was a member of Black River Lutheran Church and served on its council for many years. Lloyd served on the Bray Township board as clerk and supervisor. In addition to other boards, he was a member of the St. Hilaire Lions Club, Farmers Union and Bricklayers Union.

Lloyd played baseball and softball for many years and enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising Belgian horses.

He also had a passion for old farm equipment and held several threshing bees.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Janice; two daughters, Wendy (Craig) Mattson of Thief River Falls and Laura "Lollie" Olson (Mark Gagner) of Moorhead; one son, Brian (Doris) Noreen of Roseau; 10 grandchildren; four brothers, Arthur of Rickreall, Ore., Clarence "Kelly" (Joanne) Noreen of McAllen, Texas and Warroad, and Alan Noreen and Kenneth (Tressie) Noreen, both of Thief River Falls; one sister-in-law, Dee Noreen of Thief River Falls; and 24 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Louella Selmanson and Eleanor Day.
