Curtis Nordby, 94

Grygla - Curtis Nordby, 94, died Sunday, July 18, 1999 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 23 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla with Reverend Paul Knutson officiating. Joy Nordby will be the organist, and vocal music will be provided by Joy Nordby, Marie Anderson and Sandy Dunham.

Casketbearers will be Mike Nordby, Jim Nordby, Jerry Nordby, Kurt Jankowski, Ramey Nordby, Kim Emery and Dave Halvorson. Honorary casketbearers will be Tanya Verbout, Kasey Nordby, Lucas Nordby, Justin Nordby, Laura Halvorson, Megan Halvorson, Kelsey Emery, Kaitlin Emery, Donavan Nordby, Jonathan Jankowski, Ryan Jankowski and Chase Jankowski. Burial will be in Valle Cemetery in Benville township of Beltrami county.

Visitation will be held from noon until 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 22 with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls.

Curtis Nordby was born on April 11, 1905 in Benville township of Beltrami county, the son of Peter and Berthea (Bye) Nordby. Curtis attended school in Benville township and was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. The family moved to Hatton, ND and later returned to Grygla.

On October 15, 1939, Curtis married Alice Mae Warne, and together they farmed and had dairy cows. After Alice's death in 1969, Curtis sold the farm to his oldest son, Douglas, and moved to Thief River Falls where he lived until a year ago when a stroke forced him to take residence at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Grygla.

Curtis is survived by two sons, Douglas (Lorraine) Nordby and Larry Nordby; one daughter, Charleen (Keith) Jankowski; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Nordby of California; five sisters, Paula Wicklund, Florence Shay and Alice (Gilman) Hylland, all of Spokane, WA, Esther (Clause) Kristrom of Aberdeen, WA and Hilma Niven of Montello, WI; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; special friend, Inga Rodahl; his parents; one great-grandson, Skyler Nordby; three brothers, Calmer, Arthur and Adolph Nordby and one sister, Myrtle Haugen. A00003B1999JL21
