Darrell E. Nesteby, 45

Greenbush - Darrell Nesteby, 45, died Wednesday, September 30, 1998 at Dakota Heartland Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 5 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush with Pastor Ernie Christensen officiating. Organist was Joan Haugen, and Regina Boese provided vocal music. Casketbearers were his nieces and nephews, Robby and Rodney Nesteby, Donald Bush, Loretta Orvedahl, Jonathan Wagner, Thomas Bush and Jennifer Nesteby. Honorary casketbearers were Darrell's friends from SuperValu, Felix and Mike Korczak, Eileen Melby, Linda Blumer, Laurie Hamness and Punky Blawat. Burial was in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery. The Gieseke Funeral Home of Greenbush was in charge of the arrangements.

Darrell Ernest Nesteby was born on January 31, 1953 in Greenbush, the son of Ernest and Elaine (Haugtvedt) Nesteby. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church and grew up and attended school in Greenbush, graduating from Greenbush High School in 1971. In 1974 he completed training as a Journeyman electrician at the Vocational Technical College in St. Cloud.

Darrell lost his vision at the age of 25. He received training at the Lighthouse for the Blind in Duluth, learning to read Braille and get around. Locally, he was known as the "blind guy," and his nieces and nephews called him "Boss Hog." He once enjoyed fishing and driving a boat, and now enjoyed television, recording movie tapes, talking on the telephone, visiting with friends at SuperValu and spending time with family and friends. For the past five years he was a dialysis patient.

Darrell is survived by his mother, Elaine Nesteby of Greenbush; one brother, Larry (Val) of Greenbush; one sister, Linda (Lloyd) Bush of Harwood, ND; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest in 1996; his grandparents; and a niece, Jessica.
