Mabel Ness, 90

Thief River Falls - Mabel Ness, 90, died Thursday, January 21, 1999 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 24 at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Reverend Tim Bauer officiating. Grace Hammer was the organist and soloist. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Mabel N. Newman was born on February 7, 1908 in Moore county near Ramsey, the daughter of Nels and Anna (Swenson) Newman. As an infant she was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Ramsey. In 1918 she moved with her family to Thief River Falls and attended schools in Sanders township of Pennington county.

She married Palmer Ness on January 24, 1928 in Thief River Falls, and the couple made their home in Sanders township. Palmer died in 1981.

Mabel enjoyed flowers, gardening, birds and other wildlife.

Survivors include four brothers, Hans Newman of Thief River Falls, Albert (Leona) Newman and Walter Newman, both of Alden, and Elmer (Dorothy) Newman; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers, Jens, Einar and William; and one sister, Marie Hunter.
