Evelyn "Evie" Nelson, 80

Thief River Falls - Evelyn "Evie" Nelson, 80, died on Wednesday, November 12, 1997 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 15 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in St. Hilaire with Reverend Terri Skildum officiating. Deb Holmgren was the organist, and Penny Schindler was the soloist. Casketbearers were Kelley Turgeon, Rob Rux, Jon Kruse, Dale Olson, Dave Olson and Larry "Snook" Olson. All of Evie's family and friends were honorary casketbearers. Burial was in Community Cemetery in St. Hilaire. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn Minnie Grimm was born on July 24, 1917 in Lambert township of Red Lake County near Brooks, the daughter of William and Annie (Duesing) Grimm. She grew to adulthood and attended school in Lambert township.

In December of 1935 she was united in marriage to Edwin P. Nelson. The couple made their home in the Oklee area. Evelyn lived in Miles City, MT for a few years before moving to Thief River Falls. While in Thief River Falls, she worked at Warren Emmaus Home and the McIntosh Manor. Since June of 1996 she has been a resident of Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.

Her family was the love of Evelyn's life. She also enjoyed traveling, dancing, music, watching old westerns on television, gardening, quilt making and sewing her own wardrobe. She will be remembered for her witty sense of humor.

Evie is survived by four daughters, Elaine Kruse of St. Hilaire, Ardelle (George) Olson of Oklee, Eunice Rolandson of Thief River Falls and Diane (Jerome) Turgeon of Baudette; one son, Ronald Nelson in Northwood Home at Red Lake Falls; two brothers, Orville Grimm of Thief River Falls and LaVern Grimm of Brooks; two sisters, Doris Nelson of Oklee and Violet (Maynard) Ferden of McIntosh; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Randy Rux; and one great-granddaughter, Amy Rux.
