Donald G. Nelson, 64, died Thursday, June 1, 2000 at his home in
Plummer.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 5, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer with Rev. Gary Graff officiating. Linda Olson was the organist and soloist, and special music was provided by Derek Druse. Casketbearers were John Helley, Rocky Jesperson, Ferd DeHate, Gerald Toulouse, Jim DuChamp and Michael Nelson. Burial was in Emmardville Cemetery near Plummer. The Petterson Funeral Home of Red Lake Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Donald Gene Nelson was born on July 7, 1935 at Plummer, the son of Julius and Emma (Olson) Nelson. He grew up and attended school in Plummer and was baptized in the Lutheran faith.
He served in the U.S. Army and following his honorable discharge returned to Thief River Falls. In 1961, Donald began employment at the Land O'Lakes Turkey Hatchery where he worked for 14 years. In October of 1962, he was united in marriage to Aurelia Marciniak. He also worked for area farmers and was a self-employed house painter. He returned to Plummer in 1985 where he had since resided.
He enjoyed fishing and watching sporting events.
Donald is survived by one brother, Duane (Connie) Nelson of Plummer; and several nephews, a niece and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, George Nelson, James Nelson, Willard Nelson and Vern Nelson; and his stepfather, Mathew Christensen. A00003B2000JN07
