Raymond Muller, 84

Thief River Falls - Raymond Muller, 84, died Thursday, August 27, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 31 at 2:30 p.m. at the Heritage Community Center in Thief River Falls with Loren Quick and Richard Rashke officiating. Jean Lund was the organist, and vocal music was provided by Nita Steinbrecher. Casketbearers were Justin Muller, Brent Muller, Cheryl Erickson, Craig Erickson, Heather Muller, Derald Steinbrecher, Scott Kaler and Maynard Solberg. Burial was held at 2 p.m. at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley with Dennis Falb officiating. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Raymond Leroy Muller was born on July 18, 1914 in Watertown, SD, the son of Frank and Inga (Anderson) Muller. As a young boy he moved with his family to Wright, MN. The family later moved to Virginia where Ray attended and graduated from high school in Mt. Iron. He attended college in Virginia. Ray worked in Princeton for various farmers before moving to Onamia where he was employed as a truck driver and mechanic.

On July 26, 1941 he was united in marriage to Berneice Kaler in Long Prairie.

Ray was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in World War II, spending time in New Guinea and the Phillipines as a truck driver and staff driver. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Onamia and then moved to Motley where he worked as a mechanic. In 1963 the couple moved to St. Paul where Ray owned and operated an Italian restaurant.

In 1976 Ray semi-retired, and he and Bernice moved to Polk Centre township in Pennington county. The couple has spent the winters in Mission, TX and summers in rural Thief River Falls.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing and golfing. He was a member of the Thief River Falls American Legion.

Ray is survived by his wife, Berniece of Thief River Falls; one daughter, Myrna (John) Erickson of Red Lake Falls; one son, Marvin "Butch" (Cindy) of Moose Lake; five grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Justin, Floyd and Elgin; three sisters, Helen Youngstrom, Eileen Trana and Grace Bostrom; and his stepmother, Bertha (Long) Muller.
