Leland Mott, 61

Mott obit Thief River Falls - Leland Mott, 61, died Friday, December 29, 2000 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, at St. Pauli Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls, with Rev. Terri Cuppett officiating. Lynda Olson was the organist. Casketbearers were Eddy Olson, Tom Olson, Mike Olson, Rodney Martinson, Jeff Martinson and Scott Martinson. Honorary casketbearers were all of Leland's grandchildren. Interment was in Community Cemetery in St. Hilaire. Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Leland Raymond Mott Sr. was born on October 15, 1939 in Audubon, the son of Robert and Ruth (Tandy) Mott. He was baptized in the Christian faith on February 5, 1940 and attended schools in Detroit Lakes. He also graduated from the Welding Department of the Area Vocational Technical Institute in Thief River Falls in 1972.

Leland served with the U.S. Air Force for some time and was discharged on April 10, 1957.

On August 18, 1963, he was united in marriage to Carol Ann Martinson at Detroit Lakes. The couple lived in several communities where Leland was employed, including Glass Farm, Arctic Enterprises and Inred's Bulldozing, all in Thief River Falls; Mutual Materials Brickyards, Renton, Wash.; Olympic Foundry, Seattle, Wash.; Swift's Turkey Plant, Detroit Lakes; Gene's Mobile, Thief River Falls; Marvin Windows, Warroad; and Callaway Lumber, Callaway.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening, birdwatching and especially restoring old classic cars. He also enjoyed being a member of the Northland CB Club.

Leland is survived by his wife, Carol of St. Hilaire; his mother, Ruth J. Tandy of Callesport, Wash.; two sons, Leland Jr. (special friend Donna Hennon) of Newfolden and Lonnie (Patty) of Argyle; three daughters, Carmine (Brian) Trulson of Newfolden, Carolyn (Allen) Laughery of Crookston and Loretta McTeer of Carrolton, Ga.; 16 grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard (Mickey) and Larry (Helen), both of Seattle, Wash.; two half-brothers, Wayne Haskins of Washington State and Marvin Haskins of Woodland Park, Colo.; and two sisters, Lacastala (Chuck) Davis and Ruby LaPiere.

He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents; stepmother, Frieda Mott; a granddaughter, Cassey Hennon; a sister, Loraine Mott; two brothers, Loren Mott and Lorrall Mott; his foster parents, Leonard and Mildred Lachowitzer; and several aunts and uncles.
