Oliver Mossestad, 77

Crookston - Oliver C. "Ollie" Mossestad, 77, died Monday, October 27, 1997 at his home in Crookston.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 31 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston. Military honors were provided by the Crookston Veterans Council. Interment was in Oakridge Cemetery, rural Thief River Falls. The Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ollie was born September 25, 1920 at Numedal township near Thief River Falls, the son of Julius A. and Anna (Brateng) Mossestad. He grew up on the family farm, attended country school, and was baptized and confirmed at Oak Ridge Lutheran Church. In 1942 he entered the US Army and served overseas in the Rhineland and Central Europe during World War II. After his discharge in l946 he returned to Thief River Falls.

Ollie was united in marriage to Lila Torkildson on April 17, 1947 at Crookston. The couple lived in Thief River Falls where he received training as an electrician at the Area Vocational Institute. For the next several years, Ollie was employed by Prior Electric and then Olson Electric, both in Thief River Falls. In l965 he and his family moved to Hibbing where he worked as an electrician in the taconite mines. From there they moved to Minneapolis and then to Cavalier, ND where Ollie worked on the ABM missle sites. In 1974 they moved to Crookston where he continued to work as an electrician until retiring in l984.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Crookston American Legion Post 20, Crookston DAV and was a member and past commander of Thief River Falls VFW Post 2793. He was also a retired member of Grand Forks Local 1426 of the Electrical Workers Union. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Ollie is survived by his wife, Lila; one daughter, Marlys (Ron) Lietzow of Sioux Falls, SD; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four brothers, Oscar (Edna) Mossestad of Thief River Falls, Vernon (Marvel) Mossestad of West Fargo, ND, Stanley (Eunice) Mossestad of Grand Marsh, WI and Donald (Mona) Mossestad of El Sabronte, CA; three sisters, Hilda (Bert) Cator of Glenwood Springs, CO, Agnes Selvog of Stanwood, WA and Lillian Braun of North Fond du Lac, WI; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arthur and George; and one sister, Louise Battenfeld.
