Marvin L. Moen, 80

Clearbrook - Marvin L. Moen, 80, died on Sunday, May 9, 1999 at the Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 15 at First Lutheran Church in Middle River with Reverend Dan Bowman officiating. Barb Geer was the organist, and casketbearers were Justin Moen, Delwin Johnson Jr., Lyle Moen, Jake Moen, Quincy Rasmussen and Alfred Knutson. Burial was in Spruce Valley Cemetery in Spruce Valley township of Marshall county. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Marvin Moen was born on November 16, 1918 in New Maine township of Marshall county, the son of Arthur J. and Alma J. (Ellingson) Moen. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and was raised and attended school in the Newfolden area.

Marvin entered the U.S. Army on June 13, 1942 and was stationed at Camp Russel B. Huckstep near Cairo, Egypt. Following his honorable discharge in November of 1945 he returned home where he worked on the Egil Peterson farm for several years.

In 1950 Marvin went to Hibbing where he was employed in the iron ore mines for two years. He then moved to Havre, MT where he worked on the Pete Christofferson farm for a couple of years and then on the Roy and Clara Burger farm for several years.

He returned to Middle River in September of 1968 where he farmed for several years and also worked for Joppru Construction, bulldozing for a few years. Marvin retired in 1980.

In 1991 he moved to Clearbrook where he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the American Legion Post 444 of Middle River for several years until transferring his membership to the Clearbrook post when he moved there.

Marvin is survived by two brothers, Stanley (Stella) Moen of Middle River and Leland (Fae) Moen of Clearbrook; seven nieces and nephews; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
