
Roseau - Ferdie H. Moen, 87, died Friday, July 14, 2000.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 17, at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad with Rev. Gary Halverson officiating. Kirstin Olson was the organist, and vocalists were Jan and Diedre Nordin. Casketbearers were grandsons David Bjerk, Jonathan Bjerk, Michael Bjerk, Peter Carlson, Jay Carlson and Matthew Carlson. Interment was in Eidsvold Cemetery in Halma. Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad was in charge of the arrangements.
Ferdie Helmer Moen was born on July 9. 1913 in rural Kittson county near Halma, the son of Henry and Ida (Skatrud) Moen. He attended the former Beaton School near his home and was baptized and confirmed at Eidsvold Lutheran Church near Halma. He took over the family farm and farmed for several years.
In 1944, Ferdie was united in marriage to Pearl Lorraine Johnson at Salem Lutheran Church near Strandquist. In 1954, the family moved to Minneapolis where he worked at NAPCO Industries in Hopkins until his retirement in 1978. Ferdie and Pearl returned to northern Minnesota, living in Kittson county and later Roseau. After retirement, he worked delivering the Grand Forks Herald and doing farm work.
Ferdie had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Minnehaha Falls, Messiah Lutheran Church of Roseau and Bethel Lutheran Church of Willmar. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, doing home and car repairs and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl; two daughters, Pat (Jack) Bjerk of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Candy (Tom) Carlson of New Brighton; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Myrtle Wann of Palo Alto, Calif. and Clarice Yngve of Karlstad; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Ferdie was preceded in death by his parents; twin infant siblings; one brother, Harold; and one sister, Vina Hagen. A00003B2000JL19
