OR - Walter Moberg, 88, died on January 3, 1999 at the Veterans
Home in Dallas, OR.
Funeral services with
military honors were held on January 7 at Hillsboro, OR. Burial was
in Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland, OR.
Walter Odell
Moberg was born in Whiteford township of Marshall county on August 2,
1910, the son of Hilmer and Pearl (Simmons) Moberg. He grew up in the
Gatzke and Holt areas and attended school in Mud Lake township.
In 1936 he moved to Holt where he farmed until being inducted into
the U.S. Army in 1942. Walter served in the Philippines until his
discharge. He returned to Holt where he farmed and helped care for
his nephew and parents.
In 1976 Walter married
Della Smeby of Hillsboro, OR. The couple made their home in
Hillsboro. Della died in 1992. Failing health required Walter to
receive convalescent care at the Veterans Home in Dallas,
OR.
He is survived by two stepdaughters, Eileen (Bob) Robbins and Linda
(Jim) Armstrong, both of Beaverton, OR; one stepson, Darryl Smeby;
eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lydia
Babcock of Aurora, Joyce (Clarence) Ness of Montgomery, AL, and Olive
Lunke of Thief River Falls; and several nieces and
nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife; parents; three brothers,
George, Gerald and Clifford; and three sisters, Bertha Moberg,
Florence Sannes and Delores Reese.
