
Thief River Falls - Susan Mitchell, 39, died Sunday, June 28, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 2 at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking with Reverend Paul Chell officiating. Diane Waterworth will be the organist, and vocal music will be provided by Erika Halvorson and Bjorn Halvorson. Steve Broten will be the violinist. Casketbearers will be Robert Broten, Kent Broten, Derwin Broten, Kyle Halvorson, Keegan Halvorson and Matt Waterworth. Burial will be in Alma Cemetery in Alma township of Marshall county.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m today (Wednesday, July 1) at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Susan Kay Broten was born on August 6, 1958 in Warren, the daughter of Nelder and Shirley (Anderson) Broten. The family lived in Viking. Susan attended school in Viking and Newfolden through the ninth grade. She then attended Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, graduating in 1976. She lived in Grand Forks, ND for a short while and attended nurse's training at the AVTI. At the age of 18 she was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy.
Susan returned to Thief River Falls and married Mark Larson in 1977. The couple lived in Thief River Falls and worked at the Occupational Development Center. In 1989 she married Robert Mitchell. Susan entered Oakland Park Nursing Home on July 12, 1995 and has since resided there.
She enjoyed reading, watching television, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends.
Susan is survived by one sister, Lynnae Halvorson of Viking; one niece; two nephews; two aunts; one uncle and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
