Wallace Miller, 92

Red Lake Falls - Wallace "Pete" Miller, 92, died Wednesday, February 23, 2000 at his home in Red Lake Falls.

Mass of Christian burial was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 28 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Dennis Weiland officiating. Kathie Knott was the organist, and special music was provided by St. Joseph's Church Choir. Casketbearers were members of the Knights of Columbus Holy Family Council 10723. Military honors were accorded by the American Legion Post of Red Lake Falls. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls with the Petterson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Wallace "Pete" Miller was born on June 27, 1907 in Red Lake Falls, the son of Joseph and Agnes (Verbonceur) Miller. He attended parochial and public schools in Red Lake Falls, and after graduating from high school joined his father in the barber business.

On June 6, 1932, Pete was united in marriage to Florence Bendel in Red Lake Falls. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He then worked for Dutch Robertson for five years in the men's clothing store before resuming his career as a barber. He retired in 1969.

Pete served as a volunteer fireman for 20 years and was treasurer of the St. Joseph Cemetery board for 12 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post in Red Lake Falls.

He enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and yard work.

Survivors include his wife, Florence Miller of Red Lake Falls; one daughter, Marilyn Miller of St. Paul; one son, James Miller of Red Lake Falls; one brother, Ralph Miller of Lompoc, CA; one sister, Yvonne Freund of Grand Forks, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Beulah Dandurand and Elsie Drees; and one brother, Percy Miller.
