Robert Miller, 72

Red Lake Falls - Robert Miller, 72, died Tuesday, February 11, 1997 at United Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Arrangements were with Petterson Funeral Home of Red Lake Falls.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 15 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls with Rev. Gary Graff officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Oak Grove Cemetery near Red Lake Falls.

Robert George Miller was born on May 27, 1924 in Grafton, ND, the son of Ray S. and Freda (Steinbronn) Miller. He attended the Grafton and Park River Schools. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Lykken on November 28, 1948 in Grafton and moved to a farm east of Red Lake Falls on April 7, 1952 where they farmed until they retired in September 1989 and moved into Red Lake Falls. He served on the School District 630 board for 18 years, Red River Valley Potato Council, the Red Lake County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, Member of NW Stockmen's Association, Clerk of Gervais Township for many successive terms and at present he was a director of the Red Lake County State Bank Board and Director of the Senior Citizens Board and vice president of AAL branch 6723 and a director of the Lions Club. He held numerous offices on the council of Bethany Lutheran Church serving as president for two terms. During one term, the church was built in 1967. He sang in the Bethany choir, was active in the Men's Morning Bible Study, and was chairman of the Gift and Endowment Committee.

He was an active member of the community. He was awarded Minnesota Soil Saver of 1956 for Red Lake County, 1963 Red Lake County King Agassiz, 1978 Valley Farmers and Homemaker Award, 1988 Farm Family Award, 1987 Civic and Commerce Farm Couple of the Year.

He is survived by wife Lorraine; sons Scott (Maribeth) of Delta Junction, AK, and David (Peggy) of rural Red Lake Falls; daughters Pastor Deborah (Dale) Birkeland of Arden Hills, Robeta (Michael) Tydlack of Hutchinson, Patricia (John) Harren of Roosevelt, and Rebecca (David) Dargis of Big Lake, AK; 20 grandchildren; brothers Arnold Miller of Vancouver, WA, Wallace Miller of Pacific Palisades, CA, and Kenneth Miller of Los Angeles, CA; and sisters Ruth Shephard of Crystal, ND, Miriam Newton of Resda, CA, and Dorothy Olson of Williston, ND.

He was preceded in death by brother Stanely; and his parents.
