Alpen Meyer, 83

Plummer - Alpen Meyer, 83, died Friday, January 9, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 13 at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer with Reverend Clarence Johnson officiating. Linda Olson was the organist and soloist. Casketbearers were John Maki, Steven Pahlen, Chad Pahlen, Rodney Duden, Chuck Simpson and Herb Walters. Burial was at the Emmardville Cemetery near Plummer. The Petterson Funeral Home of Red Lake Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Alpen Meyer was born January 8, 1914 at Flandreau, SD, the son of Max and Margarita (Lomker) Meyer. He moved with his family to a farm near Huot where he was raised and attended School No. 12 in Red Lake County. As a young man he moved to Emmardville township near Plummer where he farmed.

On June 20, 1940 he was united in marriage to Lucille LaFayette at Oklee. Alpen worked at the Plummer Elevator for a time and also at the Red Lake County Highway Department. He was an avid hunter and trapper.

Alpen is survived by one son, Jim (Joanne) Meyer of Plummer; three daughters, Jeanine (Randy) Pahlen of Plummer, Marlys Maki of Plummer and Karen (Budd) Burthwick of Bovey; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ione Dobis of Minneapolis, Margaret McCullugh of North Bend, WA and Emma Estalo of Snoqualmie, WA.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille on April 1, 1992; his parents; and one brother, Henry Meyer.
