
Galveston, Texas - Valentino "Val" Martinez, 64, and Sharon Ann Martinez, 55, died Monday, June 5, 2000 in a plane crash in Fremont county.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 13 at 2 p.m. at St. Helena Catholic Church in Fort Morgan, Colo. Interment was in the Memory Gardens. The Jolliffe Mortuary in Ft. Morgan was in charge of the arrangements.
Val and Sharon were married on April 23, 1993 in Galveston, Texas.
Sharon Scholin was born on April 18, 1945 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of LeRoy and Irene Scholin. She worked as a registered nurse for the University of Texas Medical Branch. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Galveston, Texas.
Sharon is survived by her mother, Irene Scholin; two sons, David Hildreth of Newport Richey, Fla. and Marland Knuth of League City, Texas; two daughters, Cindy Hildreth of Hitchcock, Texas and Sandra McLeod of Louisville, Ky.; one sister, Linda Dyrdal of Westminster, Colo.; four brothers, Orin of Buckeye, Ariz., Duane of St. Cloud, Ronnie of Mitchell, Ind. and Robert of Thief River Falls; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Valentino Martinez was born on February 14, 1936 in Waco, Texas, the son of Juan and Luisa Martinez. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Silver Star during his duty. He was a retired Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army.
Val is survived by two sons, Orlando and Delano Martinez, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Felix of Brush, Texas and Armando of Hastings, Neb.; four sisters, Frances Romero of Isabelle, Calif., Annie Aguilar of Greeley, Colo., Kattie Phipps of Papano Beach, Fla. and Sundie Wedin of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.
Val was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Valerie Martinez; and two brothers.
