Ruth C. Martin, 88

Newfolden - Ruth C. Martin, 88, died Friday, July 31, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 3 at 10 a.m. at New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden with Pastor Ollie Urdahl officiating. Kathy Rokke was the organist, and Dolores Mesick was the soloist. Casketbearers were Arvid Clementson, Harold Clementson, Jon Clementson, Willard Clementson, Dean Elseth, Steve Green, Josiah Nelson and Matt Wood. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth Clementson was born on February 3, 1910 near Erskine, the daughter of John and Clara (Mithhaugen) Clementson. She attended elementary school in Erskine and graduated from Erskine High School in 1928. After attending Moorhead State Teacher's College for two years, Ruth taught in the Winger and Gully school systems.

On July 11, 1936 she was united in marriage to Hjalmer Martin at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine. The couple moved to Newfolden where Hjalmer was a butter maker and Ruth taught in the Viking, Karlstad and Stephen schools. She retired in 1975.

Ruth was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school. She was also a volunteer at the Senior Center.

She enjoyed crocheting, quilt making and reading.

Ruth is survived by four daughters, Audrey (Victor) Nelson of Duluth, Carol (Jerry) Elseth of Peoria, IL, Renee (John) Erickson of Thief River Falls and Kay (Stanley) Wood of Roseau; one son, Neil (Janet) of Hastings; ten grandchildren; and four sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hjalmer; one sister, Cora Moseid; and seven brothers, Gustav, Phillip, Conrad, Oscar, Joseph, Clarence and George Clementson.
