Hazel Martin, 91

Oslo - Hazel Martin, 91, died Sunday, December 13, 1998 at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 29 at Zion Lutheran Church in Warren. A time of sharing and the showing of slides at 10 a.m. will be followed by a 10:30 a.m. memorial service with Reverend Fred Morck officiating. Linda Storstad will be the organist, and Kari Holter will be the soloist. Interment will be in Granville Cemetery in rural Oslo. The Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home of Warren is in charge of the arrangements.

Hazel Myrtle Bratvold was born on June 11, 1907 in Grand Forks township of Polk county, the daughter of Gilbert and Anna (Farder) Bratvold. She was raised by her grandparents in rural Oslo where she attended school.

On May 2, 1928 she was united in marriage to Freedom Martin in Warren. The couple made their home and farmed in rural Oslo. Freedom died on June 23, 1984.

Hazel was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and its WELCA. She also served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher for many years at the Granville church before it closed.

She enjoyed her flower gardens, animals, baking, visiting and especially spending time with all of her family.

Hazel is survived by one son, Jack (Marlene) of Bend, OR; three daughters, Donna (William) Omdahl of Warren, Janette Martin of Oslo and Janice Peterson of Thief River Falls; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; two sisters, Violet Bren of East Grand Forks and Evelyn Vonasek of Grand Forks, ND; four brothers, Ernel of Plymouth, Vernon of Crookston, and Roy and Lester, both of East Grand Forks; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers, Arthur, Melford and Orien; and one son-in-law, Clarence Peterson.
