
Red Lake Falls - Clarence Marcotte, 82, died Thursday, March 30, 2000 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.
Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, April 4, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Tim Bushy officiating. Kathie Knott was the organist, and special music was provided by St. Joseph's Church Choir. Casketbearers were James Marcotte, Nancy Williams, Andrew Marcotte, Cynthia Marcotte, Glen Marcotte, Joseph Marcotte, Patrick Montplaisir, Steven Montplaisir and Kelli Montplaisir. Honorary casketbearers were all of Clarence's great-grandchildren. Burial was in St. Joseph's Church Cemetery in Red Lake Falls. The Petterson Funeral Home of Red Lake Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Clarence Raymond Marcotte was born on June 7, 1917 at Dorothy, the son of Archie and Sophie (Benoit) Marcotte. He attended St. Joseph's School in Red Lake Falls and the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston.
From April 20, 1944 until June 9, 1945, Clarence served in the military, serving in the Pacific Theater and Japan during World War II. He returned to Red Lake Falls where he was employed by the Street Maintenance and Water Department for the City of Red Lake Falls from 1948 until his retirement in 1981. Following retirement, he worked part-time at Ted's Dairy and at Red Lake County State Bank.
Clarence was an active member of the American Legion and a life member of the VFW, serving as a past commander and in 1983 as national aide-de-camp. He was a member of the 40 et 8 and the Red Lake Falls Sportsman Club. He delivered Meals on Wheels, was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Frances Marcotte of Red Lake Falls; two sons, Duane Marcotte of Inver Grove Heights and Leroy (Carol) Marcotte of Red Lake Falls; one daughter, June (Joseph) Miller of Lake Park; one daughter-in-law, Marilyn Marcotte-Franklin of Moorhead; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; one brother, Donovan (Donna) Marcotte of Sleepy Eye; two sisters, Gladys (Bill) Reuter of Richfield and Lorraine (Henry) Gagner of St. Louis Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Willard Marcotte on November 23, 1980; three brothers, Harry, Willard and Lester; and one sister, Bernice Peterson. A00003B2000AP05
