Ralph A. Luhman, 91

Ada - Ralph A. Luhman, 91, died Tuesday, May 11, 1999 at the Lutheran Memorial Home in Twin Valley.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 17 at Grace Lutheran Church in Ada. Burial was in the Ada Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements were with the Fredickson Funeral Home in Ada.

Ralph Albert Luhman was born on July 4, 1907 at Dickenson, ND, the son of George and Marie (Diers) Luhman. He was baptized on August 4, 1907 and later confirmed in his faith on March 20, 1920, both at Christ Lutheran Church in Dickenson. Ralph graduated from the Model High at Dickenson State University.

On December 25, 1937 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Monroe. The couple moved to Williston, ND where Ralph worked for the Nash Finch Company as a credit and office manager. In 1940 they transferred to Thief River Falls. In 1946 Ralph started Luhman Accounting. After selling the business to Boyd Holcomb in 1958, and Ralph began selling mutual funds and insurance. Dorothy died on March 17, 1966.

After marrying Hilda Peterson on January 14, 1967 at Ada, Ralph moved to Ada where he continued to sell insurance and mutual funds. He entered the Lutheran Memorial Home in Twin Valley in 1997.

While living in Thief River Falls Ralph was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on a number of its boards. In 1955 he was president of the Chamber of Commerce. He was a charter member of the Eagles Club and also a member of the Lions Club and Elks.

After moving to Ada he was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, president of the Ada Lions Club and served as Lions District 5M3 from 1971 until 1972.

He was meticulous in business and had a good sense of humor. He met people easily and took the time to learn about them. Throughout his life Ralph enjoyed an amazing memory for facts and details. He also enjoyed working with his hands in his shop and carpentry projects.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Hilda, of Ada, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Edward; and three sisters, Eleanor Horne, Elsie Sayler and Lydia Hellman.
