Leola Lufkin, 80

Crookston - Leola L. Lufkin, 80, died Sunday, June 27, 1999 at Riverview Hospital in Crookston.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 1 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston. Interment will be in Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston.

Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, June 30) from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Leola L. Zachgo was born on June 21, 1919 at Fisher, the daughter of Julius and Alfreida Zachgo. As a small child, she moved with her family to Bemidji and in 1939 to Crookston.

Leola worked as a nurse most of her life at Roosevelt Hospital in Edison, NJ, South Mountain Hospital in Pennsylvania and Riverview Hospital in Crookston. She also worked as a home health care nurse.

On December 13, 1974 she was united in marriage to Arthur Lufkin at Yankton, SD. The couple made their home in Crookston.

Leola enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and playing cards.

She became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston on August 24, 1980.

Leola is survived by her husband, Arthur; three sons, Ronald Irelan of Goodridge, Wayne (Tammy) Irelan of Duvall, WA, and Kenneth (Jennifer) Buck of Shady Springs, WV; one daughter, Bonnie Lea Armstrong of Jacksonville, FL; two stepsons, Gary (Anne) Lufkin and Dean Lufkin, both of Crookston; one stepdaughter, Judy Rocha of Grand Forks, ND; 17 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Ardyce (Harry) Brekle of Austin and Marilyn (Larry) Ricord of East Grand Forks; two brothers, Wilbur (Kathy) Zachgo of Delta Junction, AK and Vern Zachgo of Fargo, ND; special friend, Debby Stewart; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Donna Davis, Doris Broden, Vera Brekle, Lois DeBoer and LaDeu Carlson; and one brother, James Zachgo.
