
Washington, IA - Clara M. Lorbiecki, 92, formerly of Greenbush, died Tuesday, February 24, 1998 at her daughter's home in Washington, IA.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 27 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush with Father Don Braukmann officiating. Mitch Walski was the organist, and Bernie Bausch was the vocalist. Petitions were presented by Dan Kelly with readings by Dr. Rudy Lorbiecki and Barb Horak. Marilyn Lorbiecki, Tom Bausch and Dick Horak were the eucharistic ministers. Giftbearers included grandchildren Matt, Mike, David and LeAnn Lorbiecki, Mary Beth Mataya, Katie Moher, Jean Nelson, Betsy O'Reilly, Christopher Bausch, Mary Pat Hawley, David and Luke Horak, and Dan and Patrick Kelly. The eulogy was delivered by Mary Kelly and Joan McCarthy. Casketbearers were her grandchildren, Brigid Kelly, Dr. Larry Lorbiecki, John Lorbiecki, Ann Chapman, Paul L. Horak and Maura Taylor. Interment was at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery in Greenbush. The Collins Funeral Home of Greenbush was in charge of the arrangements.
Clara Mildred Zabrocki was born on February 18, 1906 at Greenbush, the daughter of Gration and Pelagia (Stanislawski) Zabrocki. She attended school and grew to womanhood there and was baptized and confirmed at Leo.
On September 22, 1925, Clara was united in marriage to Lawrence J. Lorbiecki at Leo. In 1926, the couple moved to Greenbush. They purchased the former Carlson Mercantile and operated it until 1946. They then opened a paint and appliance store which they operated for eight years. They also owned and operated the Lorbiecki-Collins Funeral Home in Greenbush until 1966. Lawrence died on June 5, 1973, and Clara continued to make her home in Greenbush, later moving to Elderbush Manor. For the past three years, Clara has made her home in Washington, IA with her daughter, Barb and family.
She was a long-time member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church of Greenbush, was past-president of St. Ann's Sodality, a eucharistic minister and a CCD teacher. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and playing cards.
Clara is survived by one son, Dr. Rudy (Marilyn) Lorbiecki of St. Cloud; four daughters, Joan (Jerry) McCarthy of St. Louis, MO, Bernie (Tom) Bausch of Milwaukee, WI, Barb (Dick) Horak of Washington, IA and Mary (Dan) Kelly of Des Moines, IA; 31 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harry (Emma) of Duluth, Albin (Estelle) of Aurora and Leonard (Leila) of Iron; three sisters, Nora Witzman of Duluth, Marion Mlodzid of St. Cloud and Florence (Ernie) Fowler of Sepulveda, CA; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Larry and Camille Lorbiecki; and two brothers, Joseph and Raymond.
