Thief River Falls - Luella Longfellow, 91, died Tuesday, October 10, 2000 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls. Longfellow Obit-Color

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Monday, October 16, at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Rev. John Wollenzien officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist, and the soloist was Diane Johnson. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Luella Cameron was born on January 27, 1909 in Pembina county of North Dakota, the daughter of Gillespie and Charlotte (Barry) Cameron. She grew up and attended school in the Glasston area. At the age of 16, she moved away from home begin working as a waitress in Grand Forks, N.D. at Fountain Cafe, a Greek restaurant and eventually at Whitey's restaurant in East Grand Forks where she met her husband, John Longfellow.

Luella and John were united in marriage on September 27, 1941 in East Grand Forks at the parsonage. They moved to Chicago where she continued working as a waitress for a short time and then at two war production plants. In 1949, they moved to New Jersey and lived in the communities of South Orange, Madison and Pines Lake. In 1973, they retired to Thief River Falls where they had a hobby farm south of town. In 1995, they moved into Thief River Falls. Luella has been a resident of the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center since late May of this year.

She enjoyed embroidery, knitting, travel, caring for her family and homemaking.

Luella is survived by her husband, John of Thief River Falls; one daughter Rae (Donald) Benedetto of Great Falls, Va.; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; three brothers, Lachlin "Sonny" of Thief River Falls, Ruben (Jean) of Reynolds, N.D. and Ray (Delores) of Grants Pass, Ore.; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ruth Tucker and Eva Robertson; and three brothers, Archie, Bert and Stanley.
