&endash; Selmer "Louie" Lofstrom, 84, died Tuesday, May 6, 1997
at his home in Strandquist, MN.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 10 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist with Reverand Douglas Norquist officiating. Casketbearer were Earl Grandstrand, Dean Grandstrand, Steve, Lofstrom, Daryl Lofstrom, Weslie Rud, Brent Donaldson, Richard Robb and Jerome Boen. Orpha Schaffauser was the organist, and vocal selections, "Old Rugged Cross" and "He the Pearly Gates Will Open" were sung by Don and Marlys Lefrooth. Burial was at the Mamrelund Cemetery in Marshall County with Military Rites by the Sam R. Hougard American Legion Post 0466 in Strandquist. Arrangements were with the Green Funeral Home .
Visitation was from noon until 8 p.m. on Friday, May 9 at the Green Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the church. A 7 p.m. prayer service was held Friday evening.
Selmer Louis Lofstrom was born April 4, l913 in Lincoln Township, Marshall County, MN to the late Albert and Hilma (Larson) Lofstrom. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. He attended school in Strandquist and grew to adulthood in the Strandquist area.
Louie worked for several farmers and worked in a CC camp prior to his enlistment in the United States Army on May 1, l942. He served as a Corporal with the 65th Air Service Squadron, 6th Service Group, and served in battles in the Northern Solomons, Southern Philippines, Luzon and New Guinea. Louie was honorably discharged On August 26, l945. He returned to the Strandquist area and farmed. On December 16, l950 Louie was united in marriage to Eunice Johnson in Strandquist.
Louie then worked construction in Minnesota and North Dakota retiring in 1977. Following his retirement, he worked part-time for the Green Thumb Program in Strandquist, supervising community projects for local youth.
A member of the Sam R. Hougard American Legion Post and Bethesda Lutheran Church, Louie enjoyed auction sales, hunting, the Minnesota Twins, wood cutting and spending time outdoors with his family.
In addition to his wife, Eunice, of Strandquist, Louie is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Grandstrand and special friend, Mark Hultgren of Grand Forks, ND; two sons, John Lofstrom and Lenny Lofstrom and his wife, DeAnn, all of Strandquist; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three sisters, Adele Daffron of Bellevue, WA, Roseline Campbell and her husband, Norman, of Seattle, WA and Fern Wilson of Portland, OR; one brother, Ernest Lofstrom of Karlstad; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Barbara Kasprowicz; and one brother, Elmer "Buddie" Lofstrom; and sister-in-law, Muriel Lofstrom.
