Goodwin Lofstrom, 84, died Thursday, July 27, 2000 at Valley
Eldercare in Grand Forks, N.D.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 29 at New Hope Lutheran Church in Alvarado. Military rites were accorded by the Alvarado American Legion Post. Interment was in Oaklawn Cemetery in Alvarado. The Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home of Warren was in charge of the arrangements.
Goodwin Obed Lofstrom was born on November 21, 1915 at Alvarado, the son of Olof and Stella (Birkness) Lofstrom. He was a life-long resident of Alvarado, graduating from high school there. On October 8, 1941, he entered the U.S. Army and served in the 271st Military Police Service Company. He was discharged on December 23, 1945.
After the war, Goodwin returned to Alvarado and worked for the Soo Line Railroad for 21 years. He then took over the family farm, operating it until his retirement in 1981. He also worked as a custodian for the Alvarado School for several years and took care of the skating rink.
He was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church and a 50-year member of the Alvarado American Legion.
Goodwin is survived by three sisters, Kathleen Anderson of Devils Lake, N.D., Sylvia Neskey of Mt. Vernon, Wash. and Esther Hesse of Thief River Falls; one brother, Harley (Helen) Lofstrom of Waterville, Maine; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Iola Northrop and an infant sister; and one brother, Leland. A00003B2000AG02
