Ernest Lofstrom, 66

Karlstad - Ernest Lofstrom, 66, died Thursday, November 19, 1998 at Karlstad Memorial Nursing Center.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 23 at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad with Pastor Gary Halvorson officiating. Corienne Jacobson was the organist, and vocal music was provided by Ruth Halvorson. Casketbearers were Laverne Rasmussen, Vern Porter, Dor Carlson, Kent Hanson, Virgil Hams and Stanley Swanson. Military honors were accorded by the Karlstad American Legion Post 445. Interment was in the Karlstad Cemetery. Arrangements were with Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad.

Ernest Palmer Lofstrom was born December 11, 1931 at Strandquist, the son of Albert and Hilma (Larson) Lofstrom. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Strandquist High School in 1949. He attended Moorhead State Teachers College and was employed by the Strandquist Elevator.

In August of 1950 Ernie enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served for 21 years at various military bases throughout the world.

On June 20, 1955 he was united in marriage to Muriel Anderson at Karlstad. Ernie retired from the Air Force in May of 1971 and the family moved to Karlstad in June of that year. Muriel died on October 29, 1991. Since July Ernie resided at the Karlstad Memorial Nursing Center.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Karlstad, a charter member of the Karlstad Eagles Club and a member of the Karlstad American Legion Post.

Ernie is survived by one son, Steve (Laurie) Lofstrom of Karlstad; two daughters, Denise (James) Anderson of Lake Bronson and Jodi (Sean) Spilde of Karlstad; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Adele Daffron of Kent, WA, Fern Wilson of Portland, OR and Roseline (Norman) Campbell of Seattle, WA; his mother-in-law, Waldy Larson of Karlstad; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two brothers, Louis and Elmer; and one granddaughter, Betsy Lofstrom.
