Lloyd W. Lindstrom, 72

Karlstad - Lloyd W. Lindstrom, 72, died Friday, November 21, 1997 at his home near Karlstad.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 25 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist with Pastor Doug Norquist officiating. Ellen Johnson was the organist. Vocal music was provided by Pastor Doug Norquist, Yvonne Boen and Vangie Carlson. Honorary casketbearers were Lloyd's brothers&endash;Paul, Rudy and Clarence&endash; and his sons&endash;Larry, David E., Mike and John. Casketbearers were Curtis Anderson, Tim Gunderson, Stanley Swanson, David Lindstrom, Morris Lindstrom and Wally Lindstrom. Military honors were accorded by the Karlstad American Legion Post, Strandquist American Legion Post and Kennedy VFW Post. Interment was at Mamrelund Cemetery in Strandquist. Funeral arrangements were with the Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad.

Lloyd Wallace Lindstrom was born on January 26, 1925 in Lincoln township near Strandquist, the son of Swan and Ella (Nordin) Lindstrom. He was baptized and confirmed at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church near his home, attended the Strandquist School and graduated from Kennedy High School in 1943.

Lloyd enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served as an aerial gunner aboard the Navy torpedo bomber operating off the aircraft carrier USS Independence. He was awarded the Air Medal for his participation for several air strikes over Japan. Following his discharge, he attended the Minneapolis Business College and later Northwestern University at Evanston, IL.

On October 18, 1946 Lloyd was united in marriage to Lois Ann Johnson at Minneapolis. The couple lived at New Lennox, IL where Lloyd was employed by the Great American Insurance Co. for 18 years. He then worked for the Crop-Hail Actuarial Insurance Assn. where he attained the presidency of the company.

After 42 years in the insurance industry, Lloyd and Lois retired to the Karlstad area for the summer months and Phoenix for the winters. He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church of Strandquist, the Karlstad American Legion Post, the Kennedy VFW Post and the Karlstad Golf Club.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Lois; four sons, Larry and Mike, both of Phoenix, AZ, John (Vickie) of Tempe, AZ and David E. of St. Paul; four grandchildren; six brothers, Clarence (Freida) of Phoenix, AZ, Rudy (Noraen) of Trevor, WI, Morris (Marcelyn) of Strandquist, Wally of Donaldson, David O. (Sharon) of Ramsey and Paul (Carol) of Polo, IL; three sisters, Florence (Hilding) Westberg of Phoenix, AZ, Amy (Reuben) Gunderson of Strandquist and Frances (Roger) Brevik of Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arnold and Will; and three sisters, Myrtle, Doris and Dorothy.
