Thief River Falls - Arbelle Lindquist, 83, died Friday, April 7, 2000 at Moorhead Health Care Center in Moorhead.

Mass of Christian burial was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 10 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Father Dennis Wieland officiating. Kristie LaSalle was the organist, and casketbearers were Jim Mercil, Michael Mercil, Cory Mercil, Brenda Mercil, Jamie Elliott and Rob St. Michel. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Rocksbury township of Pennington county. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Arbelle Marie St. Michel was born on September 13, 1916 in Louisville township of Red Lake county, the daughter of Alfred and Henrietta (Patnode) St. Michel. She attended school in Red Lake Falls and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1934. Following normal teachers training, she taught in rural Polk and Pennington counties.

On December 31, 1939, she was united in marriage to Vernon Lindquist in Red Lake Falls. The couple owned and operated the Cities Service Station in St. Hilaire. Later, they owned and operated the Hartz Cash Market in St. Hilaire for 27 years. In 1959, Arbelle began a 23 year career with the U.S. Post Office in St. Hilaire, starting as a clerk and retiring in 1982 as Post Master.

She was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters. She was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Red Lake Falls and was active for many years in the St. Hilaire Womens Club. Arbelle also served on the board of the Pennington County Red Cross.

She enjoyed playing bridge, working crossword puzzles and spending times with family and friends. She was also an avid Minnesota Twins fan.

Arbelle is survived by two daughters, Diane (Clark) Scott of Littleton, CO and Susan (Darrel) Mercil of Moorhead; one son Vern (Telsa) Lindquist of Watertown, WI; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; one sister, Ann Patnode of Minneapolis; and three brothers, Maurice of La Mesa, CA, Kenneth of San Diego, CA and Jerry of Grand Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; an infant grandson; two sisters, Olive Hance and Madeline Anderson; and six brothers, Leo, Eli, Jess, Dave, Joe and Leonard. A00003B2000AP12
