
Thief River Falls - Frances Lien, 56, died Tuesday, January 27, 1998 at her home in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 31 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Lake with Reverend Pat Sullivan officiating. Honorary casketbearers were Charlotte Johnson, Jenny Olson, Sandra Brown, Sherlene Roberts, Yvonne Johnson and Clarine Wagner. Casketbearers were Maurice Stately, Edward Lussier, Donald Sumner Jr., Corey Roberts, Sam Roy and Robert Neadeau Sr. with Donald Sumner Sr. and Robin Roberts as alternates. Interment was at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji was in charge of the arrangments.
Frances Jean Roberts was born on November 30, 1941 at Red Lake, the daughter of James and Agnes (Saice) Roberts. She grew up in Red Lake.
In 1958 she was united in marriage to Sherman Knutson. They lived in Montana for five years before moving to Oklee where Frances resided until Sherman's death on June 2, 1986.
On November 22, 1993 she married Edward Lien at Red Lake. She resided in Thief River Falls until the time of her death.
Frances was employed by Arctic Cat and Oklee Lutheran Social Services. For the past six years, she has been employed by Red Lake Gaming. She enjoyed being with her family and friends.
Frances is survived by her husband, Edward Lien of Thief River Falls; two daughters, Sherry (Gary) Ralph of Roseau and Karen (Steve) Linvick of Oklee; two sons, Donald (Toni) Knutson of Oklee and Gerald (Jodi) Knutson of Holdingford; ten grandchildren; her mother, Agnes Roberts of Red Lake; six sisters, Delores ( Edward) Mostrom, Patricia (Richard) Rossbach, Darlene Roberts, Roxanne Roberts, Kathleen (Robert) Neadeau and Margaret (Donald) Sumner, all of Red Lake; and two brothers, Allen (Shirley) Roberts and Arlyn (Jan) Roberts, both of Red Lake.
She was preceded in death by her father; first husband, Sherman Knutson; one son, Sherman Jr.; one daughter, Sandra; one grandchild, Morgan; three brothers; and three sisters.
