
Greenbush - Axel Lieberg, 75, died Thursday, October 22, 1998 at his home in Greenbush.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 26 at 10 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church with Reverend Ernie Christensen officiating. Joan Haugen was the organist, and vocal music was provided by Marie Olson. Casketbearers were Jon Sovde, Rick Sovde, Scott Hostvedt, Noel Svegdahl, Brad Penas, Jim Dvergsten, Merlyn Wiskow and Doug Lorenson. Honorary casketbearers were members of the Greenbush American Legion, Greenbush Lions Club and Greenbush Fire Department. Burial was in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Greenbush with military honors provided by Moen-Zimek American Legion Post 88 of Greenbush. The Gieseke Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Axel Edward Lieberg was born on July 22, 1923 in Haug, the son of Ben and Ida (Holen) Lieberg. He attended church and school in the Greenbush area . In 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Doyen for seven invasions during World War II. Following his discharge he returned to Greenbush and resumed his job at the creamery.
In July of 1947 Axel began a 48-year career as an electrician. He worked for Harley Anderson and soon established Lieberg Electric in Greenbush. During these years he also worked at road construction and briefly worked at a factory in California.
On May 29 1964 he married Elaine Williamson at Bethania Lutheran Church in Greenbush. The couple made their home in Greenbush. For the past seven years they have spent the winter months in Apache Junction, AZ.
He was a member of the Greenbush American Legion, Greenbush Fire Department, Pelan Park Board, Greenbush Lions Club and Bethel Lutheran Church.
Axel is survived by his wife, Elaine; one son, Martin (Susan) of Greenbush; one daughter, Kristi (Jeff) Howell of Badger; three grandchildren; one sister, Alice Dagen of Thief River Falls; and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Gloria in infancy; and one brother-in-law.
