Robert Leigh, 81

Newfolden - Robert Leigh, 81, died Friday, December 24, 1999 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 30 at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Newfolden with Rev. Gary Barrett officiating. Judy Hogberg will be the organist, and the soloist will be Connie Folden.

Casketbearers will be Jeff Scholin, Kent Scholin, Terry Moe, Brian Leigh, Laurel Moe and Robert Callanan. Honorary casketbearers will be Diana Moe Callanan, Lorie Moe Kilen, Tracy Scholin Mevesson, Kimberly Scholin Christianson, June Scholin Dosler, Lowell Hogberg, Boyd Wilson, Gene Folden, Russell Floberg, Curtis Thompson and Gary Mann.

Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, December 29) from 4 to 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Robert Edward Leigh was born on June 1, 1918 in Alfred, ND, the son of Francis "Bert" and Lavina (Pitchford) Leigh. Robert was one of 14 children, and when he was three years old his family moved to Pitt where he was raised and attended school.

In 1940 he moved to Montana where he met and married Fern Anderson on October 29, 1940. They resided in Montana for some time and in 1950 moved to Minnesota, settling in Newfolden. Robert worked as a construction laborer for many years. For the past year and a half he had resided at the Karlstad Memorial Health Care Center.

Robert is survived by his wife, Fern; one son, Alan (Pat) of Chugiak, AK; two daughters, Laurel "Yvonne" Moe of Argyle and Joyce (Gary) Mann of St. Francis; five sisters, Margaret Otto of Mountain Iron, Mildred Walz of Baudette, Marie (Palmer) Grovum of Gilbert, Mabel (Donald) Nielson of Mora and Marlys (Wallace) DeVries of Young America; two brothers, Raymond of California and Oscar "Bill" (Carol) of Flint, MI; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters, Minnie and Mae; one sister, Mary Fenton; and three brothers, Lawrence, Wesley and Howard. A00003B1999DC29
