
Wannaska - Leland Morris Lee, 80, died Thursday, February 20, 1997 at the Sheltering Oaks Nursing Home in Roseau. Arrangements were with Helgeson Funeral Chapel of Roseau.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 22 at Riverside Lutheran Church in Wannaska with Rev. Jay Borchert officiating. Burial was in Hope Cemetery in Roseau.
Leland was born on February 19, 1917 in Roseau, the son of Annie (Mortenson) and Knudt Lee. He grew up in Wannaska in what is presently Lee's Store, and has lived his whole life in Wannaska. The Lee family was awarded for having the oldest family owned business in Roseau County. He was united in marriage on June 16, 1940 to Audrine Petterson in Roseau. He was the owner and operator of the General Store. He farmed, raised cattle, and was the directors for the Citizens State Bank for 49 years. He was on the Wannaska District School Board, on the board of directors of Farmers Co-op Elevator, the Wannaska Lions Club and a member of Riverside Lutheran Church in Wannaska. He lived in his home until of October of 1995 when he entered the Warroad Care Center, then moving to Sheltering Oaks Nursing Home in March of 1996. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, reading and playing hockey and basketball in his younger days.
He is survived by wife Audrine of Wannaska; daughter Sondra Lee of Forest Lake; son Kraig (Bonnie) of Wannaska; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters Madelyn Glenn of Rock Island, IL, and Bernice Blume if Willmington, DE.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother J. Earl Lee; and sister Sarah Sattre.
