Hilma Lee Color Hilma Lee, 82

Newfolden - Hilma Lee, 82, died Thursday, January 27, 2000 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 31 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden with Rev. John Jorgensen officiating. Kathy Olson was the pianist, and the soloists were Danny Olson and Chris Fenske. Casketbearers were Marvin Nelson, Vernon Nelson, Jerome Nelson, Gary Nelson, Leon Erickson and Jerry Lund. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Hilma Alvida Strand was born on June 5, 1917 in Prairie Center township of Walsh county in North Dakota, the daughter of Anton and Lena (Staven) Strand. She was baptized at South Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Grafton, and was later confirmed there. She grew up and attended elementary school in Walsh county.

On May 27, 1940 she was united in marriage to Melvin Lee at the church parsonage in Grafton, ND. The couple moved to New Maine township of Marshall county where they farmed. In 1976 they moved into Newfolden. Melvin died on September 20, 1996.

Hilma enjoyed cooking, entertaining, traveling with her family and visiting with friends.

She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Hilma is survived by one son, Marlin (Joan) Lee of Newfolden; two daughters, Loretta (Newell) Berggren and Donna (Arlynn) Tunheim, both of Newfolden; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister Bertina Nelson of Newfolden (Note: Bertina died on Sunday, January 30) one brother-in-law; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her parents; two brothers, Alvin Strand and Elmer Strand; and one sister, Tilda Brekke.
