Milwaukee, Wisc. - Dorothy Larson, 91, formerly of Thief River Falls, died Tuesday, December 19, 2000 at Luther Manor in Milwaukee, Wisc.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. John Wollenzien officiating. Ida Nord -vall will be the organist. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church. Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
Dorothy Marie Shirley was born on July 21, 1909 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Charles and Gena (Gilbertson) Shirley. She grew up in Thief River Falls and graduated from high school in 1927. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead.
On October 30, 1927, Dorothy married Walter M. Larson at Moorhead. The couple lived in Thief River Falls all of their married life. Dorothy and Walter owned the Junior Shop and Larson Style Center until selling the business and retiring in 1975. Dorothy then ran the gift shop at Northwest Medical Center for a number of years. Walter died in 1978. She moved to Milwaukee in June of 1997.
At Trinity Lutheran Church, Dorothy served as organist for 50 years. She was also a member of Trinity circle. In 1995, she was the recipient of the "Woman of Honor" award of the Thief River Falls Branch of the American Association of University Women. In 1980, Dorothy and Rev. Truman Daniels recorded an album entitled "To God Be the Glory." Prior to moving to Milwaukee, she was active at Heritage Community Center and also served on the TRF Concert Series board.
Dorothy is survived by a son, Rev. Dale (Gloria) Larson of Milwaukee; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. A00003B2000DC27
