Hubert Kulvick Sr., 81

Elk Point, SD - Hubert Kulvik Sr., 81, formerly of Newfolden, died Sunday, June 7, 1998 at a Sioux City, IA hospital.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 13 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point, SD with Reverend Mary Fiestner officiating. Casketbearers were Albert Kulvik Jr., Dennis Madden, Darrell Sams, Ken Stroman, Daniel Sams, Jon Erickson, David Lee and Jeff Redden. Honorary Casketbearers were Michael Sams, Jack Riesen, Bob Dahl, Wayne Albert, Kevin Helm and Carl Albert. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron, IA. Schroeders Funeral Home of Akron, IA was in charge of the arrangements.

Hubert Chester Kulvik Sr. was born on August 22, 1916 in Westfield township of Plymouth county, IA, the son of Albert and Rosabell (Lewison) Kulvik. He attended school at Elk Point, SD.

On July 1, 1942 he married Lorraine "Babe" Peck in South Sioux City, NE. Hubert worked for the Zeneith Corp. until it closed and farmed near Sioux City, IA. In 1974 the couple moved to Newfolden where Hubert farmed for many years. Lorraine died as the result of a car accident in September of 1980.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden and the Eagles Club in Thief River Falls.

Hubert is survived by three daughters, Dixie (Noel) Morton of Newfolden and Susan Madden and Alberta (Duane) Madden, both of Akron, IA; three sons, Albert "Al" (Violet) of Thief River Falls, Hubert Jr. (Shirley) of Sioux City, IA and Jeff of Newfolden; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step grandsons; and three sisters, Rudean Hovland of Custer, SD, Lorraine Egly of Panora, IA and Audrey Kjose of Akron, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one grandson, Duane Nickolas Madden Jr.; and two brothers, Vernon and Ronald.
