
Goodridge - Alvin O. Kompen, 87, died on Tuesday, July 13, 1999 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 16 at Ekelund Lutheran Church, rural Goodridge, with Reverend Gary Johnson officiating. Grace Hammer was the organist, and Diane Johnson was the soloist. Casketbearers were Judy Shurtz, Irene Farrigan, Clinton Hoffman, Susan Hoffman, Gary Iverson, Leslie Iverson, Rick Jensen, Linda Rouhoniemi and Jon Jensen. Burial was in Ekelund Cemetery in Highlanding township of Pennington county. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Alvin Olai Kompen was born on April 15, 1912 in Lyon county, the son of Gudbrand and Julia (Broughton) Kompen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Hazelwood School District 59 in Star township of Pennington county.
Alvin worked on the family farm his entire life, raising small grains and sheep and milking cows. He also worked for his uncles, husking corn and doing farm work on a seasonal basis.
In December of 1996 Alvin moved to Goodridge where he resided for two years before moving to Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.
He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed football, baseball, cats and playing cards with family and friends.
Alvin is survived by three sisters, Hilda Hoffman of Thief River Falls; Clenora (Alfred) Iverson of Goodridge and Agnes (Roy) Jensen of Thief River Falls; nine nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Gladys and Hilda in infancy; one infant niece; and one brother-in-law.
